A Memorial of Gratitude from the Guilty Subject Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Prostrating in Thanksgiving
The guilty subject Mountbatten-Windsor, with trembling reverence, prostrates and speaks:
I, a humble collateral of the royal line, by accident of fortune received heavenly favor and was enfeoffed as a prince. Yet I failed to restrain myself, indulged in desire, consorted with the depraved, and defiled the royal order.
Above, I have betrayed the teachings of the Holy Mother; below, I am ashamed before the millions of British subjects.
In righteous anger, Your Majesty upheld the law, stripped me of my titles and emoluments, and restored order to the realm. Thus, the principles of heaven and morality were set right, and the statutes of our ancestors shone once more in clarity.
Kneeling to read the royal decree, tears and snot flowed without restraint.
Though my name was erased from the lineage, I still received Your Majesty’s mercy, allowed to keep my surname and continue my line. Though expelled from the palace, I was granted a humble dwelling for shelter.
The thunder of wrath is yet a form of grace; even the axe and the cauldron are instruments of compassion.
Day and night, I shall reflect upon my sins, reciting the Royal Codes to admonish my heart; Gazing toward Buckingham Palace, I shall forever cherish gratitude.
I beg Your Majesty to perceive my repentance, loyal as a dog or horse, humble as an ant.
Henceforth, I shall abide by the role of a commoner, avoiding the gates of the powerful and noble. By day, I shall do good deeds to atone for past sins; by night, I shall pray for Your Majesty’s longevity.
If I may live out my remaining years, it will be solely due to Your Majesty’s grace of rebirth.
I gaze up to boundless heavenly grace, trembling in anxious readiness for Your Majesty’s will.
With utmost reverence, I submit this memorial to thank Your Majesty for your benevolent attention.
