After being awarded her degree, Yang commenced doctoral studies at Hong Kong Baptist University.

As WHU is a prestigious 985 institution in China, this scandal went viral across Chinese social media, accumulating over 10 million views.
On the evening of August 5,2025 Yang uploaded a file titled Yang Jingyuan - Master’s Thesis Investigation and Review.zip to her cloud storage. The file, discovered by netizens and later deleted (Backup of this file:backup), contained "revisions" to her thesis and stated: "I am willing to actively cooperate with the university, faculty, and professors in future revisions, rigorously address existing issues, and enhance the rigor and standardization of my research." This implies the university has not initiated accountability procedures but tacitly permitted retraction and revision of a published thesis—setting a precedent that "major academic misconduct not only goes unpunished but can be retroactively edited." Such actions equate to allowing students to alter graded exam papers, desecrating academic integrity, undermining the dignity of honest scholars, and reducing oversight mechanisms to a mockery.
Nature of the Incident:
Systemic Academic Failure: A master’s thesis undergoes rigorous annual checks (proposal defense, blind review, oral defense). WHU’s approval of a thesis riddled with flaws exposes the collapse of its academic governance.
Institutional Complicity: Post-scandal, the university opted for media silence and backchannel negotiations, enabling the retraction—confirming systemic misconduct by academic leadership. This official shielding of fraud has catastrophically damaged China’s academic ecosystem.

8月5日晚，杨在其网盘中上传了一份名为 杨景媛-硕士学位论文调查审核.zip 的文件，该文件在被网友发现后现已删除，（该文件的备份地址:backup）。文件中是对其论文的“修正说明”，并透露出这么一句话：“我愿意在今后的修改过程中积极配合学校、学院及各位老师的要求,认真修正存在问题,不断提升科研工作的严谨性与规范性”。据此，我们合理怀疑校方非但未启动追责程序，反而默许当事人撤回已发表论文进行修改，此举彻底颠覆学术底线开创了中国大学“重大学术不端行为不仅不用受到处罚，甚至可以撤回修改”的先例，此举等同于允许考生在交卷评分后篡改答卷，不仅亵渎学术公正、践踏诚信学子的尊严，更使学术监督机制沦为笑柄。
